Blue-Collar Table

Blue-Collar Table
Blue-Collar Table DetailBlue-Collar Table Detaill

The Blue Collar Table speaks to the sometimes perplexing philosophy that is the American Arts and Crafts movement. With Charles and Henry Greene catering to high-end Arts and Crafts aficionados; Gustav Stickley sought to bring that same quality of craftsmanship to working families across America. It is within this spirit, that the Blue Collar Table was created for the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa's permanent furniture collection. Stu has masterfully harmonized the tables design and material to capture the essence of the Arts and Crafts movement.

The Blue-collar table's design embraces, and blends, traditional influences from Charles and Henry Greene, Gustav Stickley, and Frank Lloyd Wright; while also integrating a contemporary style that creates the illusion that the table's lower shelf is floating between the two sides.

The table's wood also displays a unique complexity of pedigree and working-class. Originally harvested from the Dupont Estate, its unique grain and color-patterns tell of a life touched by disease, injury, and even shotgun wounds!

Finally, the table's construction stretches from traditional to contemporary as well. It features an ebony splined, bread-board top; pegged mortise and tenon joints with ebony plugs, and a unique table-top button system that indicates when the solid-wood top has expanded or contracted.

The Blue Collar Table resides in the connector between the Historic Main Inn and the Vanderbilt wing.
