Stuswoodworks.com reflects my passion for building Arts and Crafts inspired furniture.

Furniture grounded in the philosophies of the Arts and Crafts era—a period when artist, designers and philosophers worked to rekindle the collaboration between artist and craftsman that was lost in the factories of the industrial revolution.  Stylistically nestled between the Victorian and Art-deco periods, and often complimented with Art Nouveau elements, Arts and Crafts furniture reflects simple, honest lines; a passion for local, indigenous material; and quality craftsmanship that has passed the test of time.

Integral to designing furniture inspired by both a cultural movement and an artistic style is an understanding of the history and influences that are present in past and original Arts and Crafts furniture. In Stu's Blog I'll explore both the historical and stylistic elements of the Arts and Crafts movement that influence its furniture. In my woodworking blog, Gus' Guild I'll discuss the joinery, techniques, and craftsmanship that goes into each piece of Arts and Crafts furniture I build.

Please look around, and feel free to contact me with any questions or thoughts you have.  Finally, if you're interested in commissioning a piece of Arts and Crafts furniture please visit my Commissions page for details.
