Ebony Spline.  This eye-catching treatment provides a smooth transition from the table top to the bread-board end.

Ebony plug.  The Ebony plugs are often functional, but are also employed aesthetically; in this case to create a balancing contrast to the Ebony Splines.

Aromatic red cedar lining. The chest's interior is lined with aromatic red cedar. The lining is made from solid cedar—not plywood.  I mill my lining to be a robust 3/8" thick.

Leg 2-sided detail.  I assemble my legs from four quarter-sawn oak pieces. This technique allows me to ensure a highly figured appearance on all four sides of the leg.  Because of the physical properties of the wood, a solid leg would only have a figured appearance on two sides.

Book matched top.  The book matched top is created by taking one thick board, sawing it down the middle then laying the sides down as if you were opening a book.  By doing this I create tops that have similar, mirrored, grain patterns on each half of the top.  Bread board ends are often added to ensure a flat top for many generations.
