Leg Indent. This leg treatment draws the eye to the leg and highlights the stunning ray and fleck patterns of the quarter-sawn white oak.

Ebony plug. The Ebony plugs are often functional, but are also employed aesthetically; in this case to create a balancing contrast to the Ebony Splines.

Leg 2-sided detail. I assemble my legs from four quarter-sawn oak pieces. This technique allows me to ensure a highly figured appearance on all four sides of the leg. Because of the physical properties of the wood, a solid leg would only have a figured appearance on two sides.

Book matched top. The book matched top is created by taking one thick board, sawing it down the middle then laying the sides down as if you were opening a book. By doing this I create tops that have similar, mirrored, grain patterns on each half of the top. Bread board ends are often added to ensure a flat top for many generations.

Spindle detail. I create my spindles from a single board. A board with a unique concentration of ray, fleck, and grain patterns--that emerge when White Oak is quarter-sawn--is selected. I carefully select a pattern or flow that compliments the table I'm creating.
